Historical Note: The Ferrari 126 C2, an Icon of Power

The Ferrari 126 C2 , which can be seen speeding on the asphalt of Imola on this poster, is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful and successful Formula 1 cars of the Turbo era.

A technological revolution

Designed by Harvey Postlethwaite, the 126 C2 was the first Ferrari in history to use a monocoque chassis made of aluminium and carbon fibre. This innovation provided exceptional rigidity, which was essential to exploit the colossal power of the 1.5-liter V6 Turbo engine , capable of developing more than 580 horsepower.

The Queen of Ground Effect

On the poster, we can make out the streamlined lines of the car designed for the ground effect . Thanks to its side skirts and streamlined floor, the 126 C2 was literally sucked into the track, allowing for dizzying cornering speeds on the technical Imola circuit.

A Tragic and Glorious Destiny

If 1982 was a year of mourning for the Scuderia with the loss of Gilles Villeneuve and the accident of Didier Pironi, the 126 C2 still proved its technical superiority by winning the Constructors' World Championship . It remains the symbol of an era when Ferrari found its way back to the technological top against the British teams.
